When attaching a file you may see the message "Upload failed. The file type is invalid or not supported.".
This article describes the issue and next steps in more detail.
1. Issue
When you attach a file, you might see the error Upload failed. The file type is invalid or not supported.
There are three possible causes:
- Banned file type - Certain file types, such as executables and scripts, are not permitted. If you attempt to upload one of these, this error will appear. See the full list of banned file types.
- Multiple dots in the filename - Uploading a file whose name contains more than one dot will trigger an error. This is a deliberate security precaution.
- The file is empty - if the file has no content and is 0 bytes in size, the system will not accept it.
2. Solution
To resolve the error, ensure that:
- your file is of an allowed type.
- your filename contains only one dot (for example, MyDocument.docx).
- your file has content.
