Understanding user types
Who is this article for?Administrators responsible for user management.
User Management access is required to manage user types.
Administrators viewing user records will notice a field called User type, which may be set to Internal or External.
This article describes the difference, and how this value is set.
1. Available user types
There are two user types in the system, each describing whether a user authenticates against the application's user database or whether the user is configured to authenticate against the customer's Single Sign-On (SSO) system:
- Internal users access the system using the application user database.
- External users access the system using SSO.
2. Checking user type
You can check a person's user type by opening their profile in User Management.
2. Changing user type
This value can only be updated using the user import and cannot be edited in the application.
